How are you adjusting to the new state of the world? I have witnessed different reactions in people… some adjusting easily and others struggling to manage the stress and isolation. No matter where you fall on the continuum, I think we can all choose to create positive lessons from this experience.
I created a set of Inspiration Cards several years back, and lately I’ve received emails from people sharing how they have used the cards to support themselves and explore new ways of looking at situations.
Keeping with my simplicity theme for the year, I thought I would pull a card and share it in this blog and see how it speaks to you. And the card is….
RELEASE! Holding grievances drains energy. Reclaim your energy by releasing judgement towards yourself and others. (I honestly shuffled the deck and pulled this card randomly.)
Wow! That says a lot right now!
Ask yourself, “What grievances am I holding onto? What do I need to release that is draining me right now?”
It could be a repeated thought or a feeling that just seems to stay with you all the time.
When you name the thought or feeling that is draining you, you reclaim the ability to consciously decide if you want to keep identifying with the draining thought or feeling…or let it go.
Recently, someone shared a situation that escalated in his life due to Covid-19. As he talked, he became more frustrated and upset. There was definitely some implied judgement about what he thought should or shouldn’t have happened in his situation. As I listened, I could hear the tension in his voice, and then he asked me if I agreed with him.
Instead of giving him my opinion, I asked him, “How does talking about this make you feel? Do you feel better or worse as you recall this situation?” After a brief pause he said, “I feel tired…it drains me.”
Most of the time, if we stop to look at what we are identifying with that has us upset, we see that the situation has already passed. We are upset over something we have no power to change and yet, we replay the scenario again and again thinking about how it should have been or what it should be in the future.
Learn to become conscious of thoughts and feelings that take you out of the present moment. The moment you start identifying with past or future scenarios, you lose your power and drain your energy.
I, like anyone else, can get caught up and frustrated about things not being the way I want or think they should be. When this happens, I quickly notice I’m caught in the loop, and I release myself by saying, “It is what it is, let it go”.
Right now, it is easy to get caught up in a space of judgement about how things should or should not be. Remind yourself to stay present and release those thoughts so that you can maintain your power and energy for yourself and your loved ones.
